COmpassion Team

Part of our mission at The Grove is to show compassion. The Compassion Team exists to make that happen!

Throughout the year, we organize various service projects any opportunities to give to the community.

If you are interested in joining the Compassion Team, please contact our team leader.

  • COmpassion Buckets

Our Compassion Buckets are a way to help families in our community financially. You can give to our Compassion Buckets in-person, or on our giving page. No matter if it is $1 or $100, each donation goes straight to local people in need. So far in 2021 our Compassion Buckets have:

    • Paid rent for a woman recovering from Cancer and COVID
    • Purchased $500 in groceries for a single mother who is struggling financially
    • Paid an overdue electric bill for a family
  • Jail Outreach

3-4 times per year, we partner with the Chaplain at the Albemarle-Charlottesville Regional Jail by sending homemade baked goods and notes to encourage the staff. These small treats open doors for him to connect with and encourage the staff.

  • COmpassion Sunday

Once a year, we dedicate a Sunday to serving in the community. On Compassion Sunday, we do not have a typical worship service, instead, we spend the day around Charlottesville doing various community service projects.

  • The Laurels

We regularly partner with The Laurels to brighten the days of the nursing home residents and staff. We send groups on or around holidays to deliver treats, sing to, pray with, and spend time with the people there.

  • Baker BUtler Food Collection

There are kids in our community who face food insecurity. We partner with Baker Butler to send food home with kids on weekends and school breaks. This is an ongoing need with special emphasis before breaks like spring break and summer.

    Items highly requested are:

peanut butter, jelly, spaghetti, cereal, mac&cheese, canned meals, oatmeal, etc.

  • Care Portal

CarePortal is a platform that connects families in our community who have tangible needs to Churches that are willing to help.

Since we joined the CarePortal network 2 years ago, we have served 26 families in our community with an economic impact of $3,500

When a request comes in, we need volunteers to help deliver the items to the family in need. That is where you come in! We often have the resources to meet the needs but are unable to help without volunteers.
